The most important factor is water capacity. You'll want to make sure your pack can carry enough water for you to drink comfortably during your activities. Our hydration packs range from 32 ounce sizes, all the way up to 100 ounces sizes. 32 ounces is roughly equivalent to one and half bottles of soda, while the 100 ounce size is the equivalent of five bottles of soda. A good rule of thumb is that you should have about 25 ounces of hydration for an hour of intense physical activity.
You'll also want to consider storage space and pack weight. There is usually a trade-off between pack weight and storage, so if you're trying to keep your travel weight down, you'll obviously want a slimmer pack that doesn't have a lot of extras. If you'll be traveling in rough terrain, you'll want one that also functions as a back-pack, like the Camel Back MULE.
