Ride all winter long with Bar Mitts
by Darryl D. of Henderson, MD on February 5, 2017
Product:
Bar Mitts Handlebar Mittens for Road Drop Bars with Externally Routed Cables (Older Shimano): Large
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high
Pros
This mitts keep your hands warm easily in the low teen temps I have been riding in. I rode in cold weather with my winter gloves just under 30 degrees and after 45 mins I couldn't deal with the pain from cold fingers. I had seen someone with these mitts and reached out to them. I went online and ordered them.
What a difference. I can ride with hands outside, when they get cold, I slide them inside the Bar Mitts and they warm right back up. I have big hands so I have the large mitts. I can were my full finger gloves inside. They are a little snug but I can easily work the brakes and shifters. There is more room with my summer riding gloves. I highly recommend them if you want to ride all winter long.

Best bar mitts I've tried. Still doing the job after 5 winters. Easy to insert and remove gloved hands. Keep the wind off your hands.
Cons
Be careful in strong cross-winds as they hold a lot of wind.

"Bar Mitts evolved from many years of hang gliding and cold winter bicycle rides. During the cold months, I used my hang gliding mitts on top of my bicycle handle bars. Hang gliding mitts are used on a straight steering control bar. As one can imagine, not being on the shifter and brake levers had its downfalls especially when it came to descents and emergency braking. I designed various Bar Mitts prototypes that enclosed the shifter and brake levers. I am so pleased that the final product is now available for sale. We hope you enjoy Bar Mitts and many warm rides."
