Special needs for a Surly Pugsley...
by Gary P. of Hudson, OH on August 31, 2015
Product:
Axiom Fatliner DLX Rack for 26" Fat Bikes
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: high
Pros
I was totally dependent on their professionalism and knowledge in providing a product that I could be assured would work to my expectations. They steered me away from a product that would not have functioned properly. Received the 'right' item in a timely manner soon after ordering. It was all that they said it would be and and at a competitive price. I'll indeed be a return customer for future purchases.
Cons
I can honestly say that I find myself without any complaint...
Other Thoughts
Keep on keeping it on!
The Best, But Not Perfect
by Edward H. of Rochester, NY on July 27, 2015
Product:
Axiom Fatliner DLX Rack for 26" Fat Bikes
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: average
Pros
- Ridiculous 110 lb capacity
- Solid build quality
- Fits over the largest fat bike tires with room to spare
- Reasonable price
Cons
Even being set back like it is, the rack may not fit over or around disc brake calipers if they're mounted on the outside of the triangle (as I discovered). Mechanical discs in particular may be a problem, as a close fit may interfere with the actuation of the brakes.
The stabilization arms may be too short for some bikes. They can also be difficult to get into a good position since the mounts on the rack can't be moved from side to side. I suspect these problems are both most apparent on bikes designed for 5" tires.
As an alternative to the regular stabilization arms, the rack comes with a bar that attaches to a cantilever brake mounting hole. The bar is longer than the arms, but the rack doesn't include a bolt to attach it to the bike.
The cantilever brake mount support, and to a lesser degree the stabilization arms, both interfere with common seatpost-mount mudguards.
Other Thoughts
Technically I've owned this rack for a month, but I only just recently got it mounted, mainly due to the brake issue. I wanted to swap the mechanical brakes for hydraulics anyway, which completely solved the clearance problem, but it was definitely an irritation. Likewise, the stabilizer and mudguard issues are annoying.
Still, in the narrow field of fat bike racks, this seems to be the best, especially if you run super jumbo tires (mine claim to be 4.9", but are more like 4.75"). It's definitely a good rack, just be prepared for installation to not be quite as smooth as you might hope.
Sturdy, wide and flexible mounting
by Char on March 5, 2019
Product:
Axiom Fatliner DLX Rack for 26" Fat Bikes
Ownership: a few months
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high
Pros
Sturdy, flexible mounting, reasonably light
Other Thoughts
Very impressed by the quality of this very reasonably priced rack. Looking at it online, I was skeptical of the long arms on the dropout mount but in practice that's a non-issue--perhaps because the stay mount setup is good and rigid.
