Without this backrest our son could not use the trail a bike. We enjoy biking as a family, our son is 7, has Downs Syndrome and doesn't ride a bike yet. He is similar size to typical 4 year old and similar abilities to typical 2 1/2 year old. He out grew our previous carrier so we transitioned to the trail a bike in the hopes it would progress his bike riding ability. Without the backrest and it's harness he would slip right off the saddle of the trail a bike. With the backrest and harness he is comfortable, secure, and so happy to get out on family bike rides. This was a perfect solution for us.
Great backrest for my 4 year old. She sits well and can practice riding while being securely fastened. Product was easily assembled and attached.
OK, needs to be more upright for safety
I bought it for safety, I have a three year old that I put on the back of an Adams Trail-a-Bike. He cannot touch the pedals yet so I wanted him to remain on for our excursions.
It keeps him on.
a good safety strap
the backrest needs to be upright more.
leans back a little too far
I like the product, I do. I would not take the little man out without it until he is bigger. I only wish it would come out of the box more upright. I had to heat and bend mine slightly which makes me feel a little on edge safety wise if the bar has been weakened.
Great for 3 and 7 yo, fits Wee Ride Trail-a-Bike
Shipped fast, arrived quickly. Sturdy design.
No instructions included, had to find installation video online, I don't like to guesstimate kids' safety products.
Added security BUT...
The backrest is great for added protection for young riders. It is NOT a harness (it's just a strap that runs under armpits and buckles on chest) so should only be used for a kiddo who is willing to stay seated and (mostly) facing forward with hands on handlebars. It is perfect for providing a little assurance that a bump or sudden loss of balance won't automatically unseat your child.
FYI, if your kiddo is young and/or short and can only just reach the pedals, this seatback might not work for you. In order to install the backrest, you have to raise the seat higher than the lowest setting.
This is a great item for the kiddo who is graduating from sitting inside a trailer or full infant bike seat to riding on a trailabike behind an experienced rider.
