Great saddle! I am on this thing every day for commuting and occasionally on longer tours, and it is the most comfortable seat I've owned. A week down the coast of Oregon into California and I was as comfortable as if I had only ridden 5 miles around town.
Completely aesthetic, but the "antique brown" color rubs off slightly after extensive use and gives it a slightly cheap look
Brooks B17 Special Antique Brown Saddle
I just installed and rode my B17 saddle on my Paramount. As I anticipated, excellent ride although it will take some miles to break it in. I know, from past experience, it will be a wonderfully comfortable and long lasting saddle
It take time in the saddle to make it "yours". Once it is yours, it is yours for ever.
YOU WILL BE SURPRISED HOW COMFORTABLE IT IS!
This is my second B-17. I bought my first one 35 years ago and put it on a Schwinn Chrome Voyager. I gave my Voyageur to my wife recently and she insisted on getting another saddle. "Try it," I suggested. She did and came roaring down the street and back in our driveway yelling, "I LOVE THIS BIKE!" Remember, the Voyageur back in the day was second only to the Schwinn Paramount. My first B-17 is far from worn out. It's probably about broken in now. The last long ride I made with it was RAGBRAI 2011.
Anyway, when I bought my second B-17 I put it on my new Roubaix with electronic shift. Talk about modern and retro on the same machine! My brand new (and somewhat stiffer) B-17 is nearly as comfortable for the first one. The brown leather and copper rivets look nice on the new bike.
BTW this will be the last B-17 I ever buy; I'm 69 years old. But just two saddles in almost 40 years is quite a recommendation.
The mere thought of riding on hard leather might scare some younger riders half to death. A lot of people test the "hardness" of a saddle by pushing their finger on it. Try pushing the palm of your hand on it instead. It approximates your butt cheeks better than a pinky.
While a synthetic saddle can go all day in the rain, the leather Brooks has to be kept dry. Brooks makes a nifty saddle cover that I used for years. My first B-17 never got wet in the rain and I went through some frog stranglers.
The B-17 is heavier than most modern expensive saddles. If some extra ounces bother you then lose a tiny bit of weight . The only weight really worth saving on the human/bicycle combo is on the moving parts of the bicycle. If it goes around, make it lighter. If it doesn't don't worry too much about it. Cycling shoes would be the exception there. They go around.
