Cane Creek Thudbuster LT
Very happy with the performance of this product. Off- roading was rough without any rear suspension and this is exactly what I needed. Provides a nice comfortable ride and was quite easy to install!
Good Shock Absorption; but places saddle too far back.
Good road shock and chatter absorption.
Saddle Rail Adjustment inhibits the saddle from being positioned as far forward as standard seat post. So saddle now sits too far back.
Post could be longer for more insertion into the down tube.
Best Bike Improvement Ever
Works very well - takes care of all bumpy situations
Easy to install and adjust
Nothing to maintain
Takes a lot of seat post space
Trial and error for finding right settings
Just finished an 800 mile tour, and really appreciated the Thudbuster. If you ride on a lot of trails or roadway shoulders, you know that sometimes they are in horrible, bouncy shape. I never hit a patch that caused me to bounce in my seat. My bags sure took a beating and things bounced all over the place, but not me. A guy I ride with, watched me while riding the streets, he bought one the next day and never regretted it.
Should Have Bought It Sooner!
Smooth's out dirt roads really well, and makes a nice difference on mountain bike trails.
None that I've found
I'm glad I bought this and I wish I had bought it long ago.
All the benefits of a hardtail with enough real suspension to make a large number of full suspension riders happy. I'm 53 and 190. I've used this on the White Rim Trail and many other places. I coupled it with a Selle Anatomica saddle and I'm finally happy. Town, road, Mtb.
If weight is the only thing that you care about then this seatpost may be of some concern. It's heavy. I would pay more for a lighter one if it operated exactly the same. Otherwise I don't care. Not really 3 inches of travel, but certainly enough.
It will benefit every rider because you forget about the nasty bumps while sitting and when you stand to charge the up hills, there is zero pedal bob if it's on a hardtail. I have had 3 full suspension bikes and the all bob when looked out. I question how many average riders would feel that they need full suspension after trying one of these on a hardtail. The only way you could take this away from me would be to pry it out of my cold dead hands. 4 stars until Cane Creek lightens this baby up.
Can stay seated and pedaling through bumpy terrain that you'd otherwise have to stand for (or take a beating). My back is much less sore after rides now, and the rides themselves are more enjoyable.
Adds weight. Can't drop your seatpost as much.
Good amount of travel smoothes the ride over roots and stones (not a lot of "rocks" in Fla.) Rides like a full suspension without the drawbacks.
Makes for s fairly tall ride
best solution for 180 pound plus rider
A popular spring seat post type did not work at all for me at 225 lbs. Even with max tightness I just bottomed out when I saddled up so I got zero benefit. A week later with the properly fitted Thudbustet I completed the same rides in comfort that wore me sorely out using the other type of post. All right - the solution for me and up to 250 lb riders.
Several bumpers come with it but for max weight like me I had to also pay extra and order a #7 bumper to finish the proper recommended set 7.
Easy to install.
Improves ride over uneven surfaces.
Saves your back and butt so you can ride longer.
Overall a great product. As an average rider this was an excellent compromise to upgrade a hard tail over buying a new full suspension bike.
I purchased 2 Thudbuster LT seat posts. Product works as advertised. Reasonable suspension travel and rebound.
Changeable rubber elastomers "springs" allow adjustment for rider weight and terrain.
The #7 Rubber Elastomer is difficult to locate and buy. For riders wearing back packs or weighing 200 LBS. 90 kg. The combination of #5 and #7 Elastomers may be the preferred suspension combination. The Thudbuster LT comes with #3 and #5 Elastomers, giving good pre-load and comfort for 170 Lb. 77 kg. riders
Be absolutely sure you have 4'' to 5'' of exposed seat post on your current bike frame and seat combination! The Thudbuster LTsuspension mechanism is 5" high unloaded and fits between the seat and bike frame. Be darn sure you are comfortable on your bike with the seat raised 4" to 5" before buying a Thudbuster LT.
Carefully measure the seat post you want to replace with a Thudbuster LT seat post. Seat post diameter should be stamped toward the lower end of the post. There are many many seat post diameters! A wide variety of seatpost shims are available to adapt Thudbuster seat posts to your bicycle down tube diameter. You may be able to buy multiple adapter bushings and just one Thudbuster seat post to use on multiple bicycles.
Be exact when purchasing seatpost shims and seatposts!
This suspension seat post really helps!
This suspension seat really helps! I'm retired with a bad back, 2 operations and the bumps are bad for me on my spine. Have have spinal fusion and laminectomy. So, I ride real slow to reduce bumps, and still had issues. So, I spent the money and put this thing on it. It really improved my life on the bike. I'm not jumping on a mountain bike which may be the customer base, but this is good, and I'm heavy too.
The only thing I don't like is this item costs a lot, but it is built real well, and a speciality item. Other than that, no issue.
My wife and I have this on the stoker seat of our tandem bike. The short throw version's post is shorter so it doesn't allow enough height adjustment given our tandem frame and different size stokers who occasionally ride back there. We have 4-5k miles on this post and it works great, never squeaks. I also feel it's safer for the frame when the post is out far for a tall stoker, because it absorbs impacts.
It's very well made, feels completely bombproof.
The action is at an appropriate angle for how a bike moves under impact. I've tried telescopic posts, but they don't give in the correct direction so they transfer more shock for a given bump. They also need to be set stiffer to avoid moving under pedaling loads (because that's the way they want to move).
It's pretty heavy.
It requires swapping elastomer pucks when changing rider weight.
No regrets! I'd buy this again immediately if it got lost.
