Well worth every penny
Great for biking on icy trails in the woods - I was able to ride on icy surfaces that would have been tricky to walk on. Also good for frozen wet leaves. Even though my bike isn't so fancy these were well worth it.
Just like with studded car tires, on pavement that is dry or merely wet, they are sort of noisy and have slightly less traction compared with good quality regular tires.
I would definitely buy these again. During about a 20 winter rides off-road I lost about 15 studs (mostly out of the front tire, which I didn't expect) but these were easy to replace with the right tool and replacement studs.
Great traction, but you pay the price
Excellent traction. I use these primarily for riding in very icy conditions such as winter lake riding.
Following other recommendations, I broke these in gently and have not experienced any lost studs.
They tires are heavy! If your riding in mixed conditions and need some decent acceleration, go for something with fewer studs, as these tires will slow you down appreciably.
Lets go studded...
easy to mount. better than good ice grip. works well...
A great ice tire for a commercially made tire.. One of my go to's come winter time..
Nokian Extreme 294 studded tires
Lasts and works as long as 2,200 miles on mostly concrete due to the carbide studs. It will stop working well with the rubber on the tires wears down to the point that the studs will no longer stay in their holes. Until then it will stick to ice very well.
I never ride a bicycle in below freezing conditions without these studded tires. A pair of these tires is far less expensive than a broken bone and trip to the emergency room. Ride through the winter season with these and feel confident in your traction. More information and pictures on my website icecyclist.com
None. However, I have found that in the many years and thousands of miles I have used these tires that I like to purchase them in the summer or even a year before and let them age before use. That way the rubber knobbies harden a bit and no studs fall out.
