StarStarStarStarStar Bike rides wonderfully.

by
Ownership: a month

The Panaracers arrived at my home the day after they were ordered. I put them on my recently purchased 1974 Schwinn Paramount, the bike rides wonderfully.

StarStarStarStarStar Tan sidewalls give a classic look

by
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high

Pros

Tan sidewalls give a classic look
They are folding-bead tires
The tread pattern lends itself to both road and trail use
These 32c tires replaced 35c tires, and the bike handles much better
The tires roll well

Cons

The tires were slightly difficult to install

Other Thoughts

It is really too early to evaluate other features, such as wear-resistance, puncture resistance, or other desired qualities, because I have ridden only a little more than a hundred miles on the tires. The reason is because they are mounted on a Trek 520 touring bike equipped with panniers, and I use this bike primarily for shopping trips. I am delighted with the way the bike looks and handles now. I have four road bikes, and I rotate among them, depending on the ride to be taken. I have used Panaracer tires on these bikes also, and have been satisfied with their performance and durability.

StarStarStarStarStar So far, a good, tough road tire

by
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high

Pros

Appears to be a tough tire, so far.
Good for rough road riding.
Seems to have low rolling resistance and good stable ride when fully inflated.

Cons

Not too good in wet or dirt.
Does not ride well unless kept inflated quite hard.

Other Thoughts

Bought this tire for an old hybrid that I ride about 95% rough, but paved, roads, and about 5% dirt or trails. So far has been a great, tough road tire, but not aggressive enough side tread for much of any off road use, and if you try to "cheat" a little by letting some air out for off road use, the tire doesn't do well at all. This tire replaced a Continental Cyclocross, which was much better off-road, and was good on pavement as well when new. However, the Cyclo-cross wore and thinned quickly along the center, making it very puncture prone on the road as it aged. The Panaracer appears much thicker and tougher along the centerline, so I'm hoping for longer life and less thorn-induced flats. Concluding that both are great tires depending on the use, but no one tire does everything you want.

StarStarStarStarStar Streets of New York

by
Ownership: a few months
Tech Knowledge: high

Pros

The tire fits well and is showing little wear after two hundred miles or thereabouts. It takes me safely through the canyons of Wall Street and has endured wild up and down swings in the market. It even made it when the Dow peaked at 18000.

Cons

I used to have an earlier version of the Panaracer Pasela, and I run it on my rear wheel. Oddly, this one does not seem to grip as well because the rear wheel tends to fishtail in turns.

Other Thoughts

I have been using Paselas on the city streets for three years, and I have never had a flat or other failure due to normal use. I only replace them when someone slashes the sidewalls.
