Protective without bulk.
Excellent incorporated chamois
Biking tights & shorts easily fit over them.

Hip bones are vulnerable when cleated in, crashing on icy surface. Hurts. Happens so fast there's no time to get uncleated. These provide good level of protection without feeling bulky. Also use on summer trail rides - why not, when they're so comfortable?

Pros

Protective gel seems good but I haven't been able to try them because of season ending injuries sustained in an accident that motivated purchase of said shorts.

Cons

Chamois is not up to quality for the price. It is somewhat minimal on inspection but I have no miles on these shorts so that is just an initial opinion.

Price here was lower than everywhere else and order came quickly. I will order from ModernBike again.

These offer serious protection with little to no inhibition of movement.

The fit is slightly short on my leg. It may be more comfortable with longer legs.

I use these for both skiing and biking. They are extremely versatile and offer great protection.

Pros

I have fallen several times over many years of riding but for the most part have gone unscathed. However, several years ago while making a relatively slow turn on gravel I fell on my right hip. To make a long story short, it required surgery to repair. I now wear the POC shorts along w/ my cycling shorts & honestly believe that had I been wearing these hip protective shorts at the time of my fall , it would only have resulted in a bruise.

Cons

The POC shorts are a little heavy & add weight to your ride, so weight weenies might be reluctant to embrace them.

Other Thoughts

I'm not sure how warm they will be in the summer months, but since I have only used them in the fall so far, the added warmth is a plus.

Pros

My test for armor is no injuries and the proof is when the spandex that holds the pads shows damage tiny snags tiny tears the materials does not run that is to say that the small damage stays confined. New to mountain biking at 60 I was crashing 3 out of 4 rides the first few months. Used a simple formula what got injured got covered now I look the tin man from the Wizard of Oz overdone, head to toe I have yet to not have small damage to every POC piece I have shin/knee hard pads, hip, and upper body armor, I get shit from younger riders for looking like a down hill pro, but my POC let's me ride everyday even when I come off the bike this day. The stuff is GREAT, the VPD is high tech magic some find it too hot I find once I am soaked with sweat that it's just fine if you're moving.

Cons

It's the best and cost the most also takes some time to put on and take off
