I ride a bike daily in Fresno, in the great valley of California and there are goat-head stickers, so called because the seeds have pointed spines like horns and goatee so that while two point down one always points up. If you have a similar problem then the slime tube really comes in handy because the punctures are such that, when the sticker is removed, the slime will almost always seal the puncture if the tire is re-inflated and ridden on.
Will get you home even with a puncture most of the time
Holds air better than regular tube
Heavy. Hard to find some sizes
If you need a 700c x 35 with a Schrader, look for the 29x1.5 (same size)
Utility: no pro or con
Merely utility as a spare tube.
Disappointed with results
Might help reduce leak rate and let you get home, rather than having to replace tube while on the road.
I liked the fluorescent green valve stem caps (about the only other good thing I could think of!)
Has not reduced frequency of flats in my experience (4 flats in one month with 2 tubes).
Slime makes it hard to repair a leak with some patch kits.
Slime contaminated valve when attempting to fix a flat, making it hard and messy to re-inflate.
Adds needless weight, and package is larger if you're wanting to carry a backup tube in your bike pack.
Was hoping these would work, but after 4 flats in 2 slime tubes over 1st month of use, I'm very disappointed. So far, my experience has been higher incidence of flats than with other tubes. Furthermore, slime is messy and makes repair of tube with standard patch kits difficult. I found slime worked its way through the patch, apparently affecting the bond, so that the repair leaked again within a day or two. Only possible advantage (why I gave it 2 stars rather than 1) is that the slime might make a small puncture leak slowly. With 2 of the 4 flats I was able to add some air with my hand pump and limp home to make repairs before it was too flat to ride on. I've now thrown away both slime tubes and am happy to be rid of them. My recommendation: Get good quality standard tubes and don't waste your money on these things.
