StarStarStarStarStar A good chain, but not enough of it

by
Ownership: a few months
Tech Knowledge: high

Pros

Easy installation with the quick link and seems to be holding up well without stretch, so far.

Cons

It wasn't long enough for my wife's "comfort bike", with its long chainstays. I had to add part of another chain to have enough.

StarStarStarStarStar Very adequate chain for seven speed cassette and triple crankset.

by
Ownership: more than a year
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high

Pros

This is a reasonably priced chain I have used for many years. It seems to be quite adequate for my cycling (largely in the mountains). I use a triple crank set with a seven speed cassette. I don't have indexed shifting, and have never had any shifting problems as long as my components were kept properly adjusted and in fairly good condition.

Cons

None, relative to other chains I have used. (Mainly Shimano)

StarStarStarStarStar Sram PC-830 chain with power link

by
Ownership: a few months
Tech Knowledge: high

Pros

Very well made, reliable chain. I've used them for years both on my bikes, and my customers' bikes as well. I've never had a bad one.

Cons

While they're nicely lubricated already, I always remove their lubricant and install one that I know the reliability of. This is especially important if You live in the rust belt.

Other Thoughts

I would highly recommend the use of master link pliers to install this part. Their sis very well made, and good for a long time, but not meant to be just tugged into place. I also use a drop of oil on the inside surfaces of the master link prior to installation. It makes the job a lot easier.

StarStarStarStarStar SRAM PC-1 chain

by
Ownership: a few months
Tech Knowledge: high

Pros

I have purchased and recommended Sram chains and used them for customers for many years. They're very well made, reliable chains that come nicely lubricated with master links that work like they're supposed to. I've never had one that had poorly installed lnks, arrived bent or warped, or with bad plates.

Cons

None

Other Thoughts

These chains are very well made, as is the hadware, I would highly recommend the purchase of a pair of master link pliers to install this particular part. Trying to tug them into place, applying th rear brake and standing on a pedal, or other such seemingly logical(?) attempts only result in lots of frustration and destroying of the master link.
I always add a drop of oil to the inside surfaces of the plates of the master link before installation. even with master link pliers, it makes the operation much smoother and more successful.

StarStarStarStarStar Good chain that does it's job

by
Ownership: more than a year
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high

Pros

Good long-wearing chain that does the job. I appreciate the Powerlink connectors, they are much easier to use and keep track of than Shimano's break-off pins. The Powerlink also makes it easy to remove my chains from my bikes and rinse them off with Simple Green. Clean chains prevent early wear that can lead to so-called "chain stretch" and/or cog and chainring wear.

Cons

none

StarStarStarStarStar Worked like a charm!

by
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high

Pros

The safety link was relatively foolproof compared to the hit-and-miss of re-sizing modern chains with a new pin and chain tool. The price was very reasonable. The phone support was exceptional, both knowledgeable and courteous. And fulfillment was absolutely as promised.

Cons

None, really.

StarStarStarStarStar Favorite chain for retro drivetrains

by
Ownership: a month

Pros

Works like a chain; Powerlink makes mounting and adjusting length easy; silver is pretty.

Cons

None

StarStarStarStarStar Same as new, original chain

by
Ownership: two months
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high

Pros

Low price, easy to install

Cons

None

Other Thoughts

Just what you would want for a low priced, replacement chain.

After years of Shimano bike parts, I have converted over Sram for the last number of purchases with excellent results. Good product and a very good price.
