Great front tire for snow
Long, deep knobbies really help hold a line when cornering on snow.
Only measured 4.5" wide when mounted on my 80mm wheels
I replaced my stock Vee 4.5" Snowshoe tires with Bud and Lou. The Snowshoes worked great on dirt and reasonably well on snow and even some ice, but were not great in deep snow or holding the line in the corners. Bud and Lou excel here, a significant improvement over the Snowshoes. They are not perfect, but riding the same trails I noticed considerably better grab in the corners and improved climbing in loose snow, and able to handle deeper snow on the flats.
I really noticed the difference on some little-used trails which had me plowing through 6" of loose snow and a wide variety of surface conditions.
By far the best front tire for snow
By far the best front tire for snow due to its long and tall knobs and wide tread. Excellent directional control. Very little self steer at low pressures (even at 6PSI on pavement). Not too heavy for its size and construction.
Little pricey but worth it.
I switched to this tire from Vee Rubber Snowshoe and only used it for snow (snowmobile and hiker/skier packed trails, sometimes a few inches of fresh snow on top) riding. The difference was night and day. With about 4PSI, it is able to handle even some free terrain settled snowpack. From couple of rides on firm terrain I would not recommend it for that as it is an overkill. May be good on mud, though.
Replaced my BFLs with Bud/Lou combo on my Moonlander.
As for mud and snow, these are definitely the way to go. Grip is outstanding. I tend to run these around 5-10psi tubeless depending on conditions.
I see no reason to go back to the Larry's unless I only rode pavement or hard pack.
It was a bit more difficult to set the bead while going tubeless on clown shoes as it was on a smaller tire and rim, but not as difficult as typing this review with autocorrect.
Great front tire! Pulls you back on track when you hit the edge of the groomed trail.
My Bud indeed
Incredible grip, able to run them at very low pressures
Price, but all fat bike tires are ridiculously priced anyway
I run these on the front of my Mukluk and am amazed what a difference they make over my usual Nates. They run fast and grip like the dickens. I start out at 7psi (220lb rider) and am sure I've had them to around 5psi with no problems. I know a guy who runs them F/R on his 5" bike and says Bud also excels as a rear tire.
