Great panniers but a step down from previous model that is no longer available
by Hudson D. of Brookline, MA on August 28, 2019
Product:
Axiom Seymour Oceanweave P55+ Panniers
Ownership: more than a year
Tech Knowledge: high
Pros
-Large capacity
-mostly waterproof
-durable material
-has pockets
-inner liner makes for smooth placement of items fully into the bag, especially folders etc, without getting caught in the framing
-inner liner doubles as another pocket to store items separately
-when fully mounted, panniers are stable and won't come off
Cons
Vs. Axiom Randonee 60 liter panniers (no longer available)
-smaller
-access to contents is inhibited by the elastic band of the cover flap. This makes it difficult to quickly access inside unless one unstraps the buckles. This makes their use more cumbersome and frustrating on the road when fully loaded. The randonee design permitted easier access by pulling the cover flap out of the way whilst strapped down.
-does not have an inner convenience pocket for phone/wallet/keys that is safely separated from the rest of the one's contents
-mounting is slow, requires more steps than the former Rixen/Kaul bungee system that was faster and sufficient to hold panniers in position without the additional step of flipping the locking switch
-exterior pockets are smaller
-if not fully clicked together, straps will hang well below panniers and drag. The Randonee clips attached higher, did not drag below, which made for faster, more casual use of the panniers across a variety of situations that comes with long distance cycle touring.
Other Thoughts
I've used both the Seymour and Randonee panniers for bicycle tours of over 8000 miles. I prefer them to Ortlieb, Arkel, Salsa, and Jandd mostly because they have pockets, a serious oversite in other brands, and because they are well constructed.
Nevertheless, I entreat Axiom to consider reverting back to some of the design features in the Randonee series I've mentioned above. I would be more than happy to give feedback directly to Axiom as I've cycled many thousands of miles with both the Randonee and Seymour models and see plenty of room for improvement in the current model.

Well built, roomy, lots of options - very smart!

Axiom Seymour Oceanweave P55+ Panniers
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: high
Pros
A lot of space, easy to install.
Cons
Not 100% water proof some water got inside from the rain, can't lock it to the rack to prevent it from being stolen so I had to install Ubolts.
Other Thoughts
I will buy another set for my front racks and I highly recommend this product to anyone that has no other way of getting around except by bike.
