Customer review of this product:

StarStarStarStarStar Makes front derailleur height and parallel alignment a breeze

by Vincent C. of Williamsburg, VA
Product: Campagnolo Front Derailleur Alignment Tools v2
Ownership: two weeks
Tech Knowledge: high

Pros

• Solves the problem of aligning your derailleur.
• Saves time and eliminates multiple adjustment attempts.
• No need to partially tighten and check again, just hold the derailleur cage down against the plastic platform and tighten, then torque—done!
• Will not mar or scratch your chainrings or derailleur.
• Simple to use.
• Holds firmly on the sprockets (teeth) of your chainring while in use.
• Easy to follow instructions.

Cons

• The 50T jig rocks a bit on a 44 tooth chainring, but can be pressed down at the front end to get the correct clearance if your derailleur has a bit more gap to the front ring at the rear of the cage. However, that's not the tool's fault—it is designed for 50 or 52-53 tooth chainrings.

Other Thoughts

If you have ever tried to align your derailleur by using an Allen key to get that 2.5 mm gap above the outer chainring and get it parallel to the chainrings, spending more than a few minutes making small adjustments, this tool completely solves that problem.

The tool holds firmly on the sprockets (teeth) of your outer ring, and makes aligning the derailleur as simple as sliding the derailleur down into contact with the plastic platform and rotating the derailleur cage to match the white line. Clamp or tighten down and you're done.

Can also be used with derailleurs from other vendors. It's worth it, if just to save you time, because you can leave the derailleur perfectly positioned pressing down on the derailleur cage to hold it firmly in place while you tighten the clamp or braze-on screw.

Note, in ordinary use, an occasional chain snag or trail spill can nock your derailleur out of align, this helps you get it back where it should be, so it's not really a one use and discard tool, you will pull it out and check your alignment with it when ever your front shifting seems a bit dodgy . It is also useful for checking your alignment when performing chain maintenance.

It's well made, and if you have big chainrings (50, or 52-53), it is helpful. I have not tried it on my old 44 rings, so I cannot comment on it fitting other chainring sizes.

Also, the plastic will not mar or scratch your rings or your derailleur.

Overall a simple, well executed solution to a tricky problem. Even if you're not a shop mechanic, this plus an Allen key for your derailleur clamp will help you keep your front mech working well.
