Crazy Bright Package Deal
by Andrew- Quincy, IL on July 19, 2018
Product:
Cygolite Metro Plus 800 Headlight and HotShot Pro 150 Taillight Set
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high
Pros
This kit is extremely bright on the high settings. The flash settings are visible well over a mile. Both have lower-intensity modes that are more traffic and riding-buddy friendly or for evening use.
I joke that three of the settings are stun/temporary blindness/permanent blindness.
Cons
None yet.
Other Thoughts
I do a lot of road riding and am using these mainly for daytime running lights. They are fantastic for that.
After testing these out, I've found that you are visible for well over a mile. I'm getting a lot more full "change lanes to pass" due to the increased visibility. It seems to allow drivers more time to plan and I've had far fewer close passes this past month that any previous time.
I can see clearly now.

Cygolite Metro Plus 800 Headlight and HotShot Pro 150 Taillight Set
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: high
Pros
WOW! What a difference, in both seeing and being seen. The Cygolite Metro Plus 800 headlight (800 lumens) replaced the Cygolite Streak 350 (350 lumens) on the handlebar (while the Streak 350 has become my helmet light). The HotShot Pro 150 taillight (150 lumens) replaced the Cygolite HotShot SL 30 (ONLY 30 lumens) on the trunk bag. Now I have absolute confidence that I am visible to all other vehicles during my solo predawn rides. USB chargeable and several modes make this a perfect front & rear light set.
Cons
None so far
Other Thoughts
I recommend these lights to everyone who rides in the dark. Nothing less. It's a very wise investment.
I haven't participated in a group ride yet, but I have wondered about the rider behind me looking at the 150 lumen taillight. There are several modes that I can experiment with.
Awesome where it counts, but...

Product:
Cygolite Metro Plus 800 Headlight and HotShot Pro 150 Taillight Set
Ownership: two months
Tech Knowledge: average
Pros
These lights are both extremely bright and visible, quite remarkably so considering their size. I've been riding a lot after dark now that it's winter, and they are great both to let others know I'm there and to see the road/path ahead.
I'm very glad I bought them and just wish the non-brightness factors were better.
Cons
The little rubber pieces that are supposed to seal the charging port when the lights aren't charging are kind of rubbish. Within two days of minimal use one of them had fallen out and disappeared. Cygolite sent me a new one with no issues. About a month later the other one, which was attached better, tore off - again in pretty low-impact regular use. Even when they're there they're fiddly to get into place, and easy to knock out. The bar mount for the headlight is sturdy, but is also a bit fiddly if you have to move it from bike to bike regularly (and $14.00 is a lot to buy a second one to put on a second bike).
Other Thoughts
I'm glad I got this at the discounted price, and wish that Cygolite would put a bit more time and effort into the non-illuminating parts of their products.

"Founded in 1991 by a group of Southern Californian cycling enthusiasts who envisioned bicycle lighting systems utilizing the latest technology with trend setting designs, Cygolite developed a line of systems that made it synonymous with innovation and quality. Over 20 years later, we still lead the way, creating rechargeable lighting systems inspired through test rides on the trails and roads then engineered and assembled in our California headquarters."
