Ortlieb straps worked very well for two road tourists on 500 mile trip in Trinity Alps of Northern California. My buddy used his large Ortlieb seat bag last year without a strap and had problems with tire-rub. This year before I provided him with a strap on a test ride he ground a hole in the bottom of his bag. Duct tape and the Ortlieb strap kept him clear for our eight days of riding. I started using my very full seat bag with the extra strap from the beginning and never had any rubbing or swaying problems.
We both agreed Ortlieb should include these inexpensive straps as part of the original purchase.
Cons
None except it is one more connection required each morning when we put our bags back on the bike.
