Nice upgrade for an old bike

Upgraded my old Trek 8300 to new cartridge bearings. Looks great and works great. Should last another 30 years.

Since this is press fit cups I just took the frame in to my local shop and had them knock out the old cups and press in the new ones. Easy 10 min job for just $15 and worth it. I did the rest of the assembly/disassembly.
Other Thoughts
Watch some youtube videos on steerer tubes and headsets. The more you understand the easier the upgrade. There can be compatibility issues and understanding the sizes can be confusing.

I wish the bike industry would put a little more effort into making sizing clear. They recently did an industry wide overhaul of uniform sizing labeling and yet it was still a little worrisome ordering. All fit fine however.
Cane Creek 40 Headset
Perfect integration for use of a tapered fork on a frame that was not made for one. The use of the internal cup on top mixed with an external cup on bottom is wonderful. This is also the first headset I have had with sealed bearings, what a difference! I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

I upgraded from caged bearings and immediately felt an improved steering response. Smooth,precise,quick and solid.
Have not owned long enough to determine durability or ease of maintenance but I am buying another set for my other bike.
