StarStarStarStarStar Great alternative to clipless.

by
Ownership: more than a year
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high

Pros

I have been using Power Grips for years. I only recently purchased a new set of straps to replace the originals and use them in tandem with the high performance pedals.
Very durable, easy to set up and use.
They are easy to slip your foot into, very comfortable and you are not limited to cycling shoes.
Your foot stays planted to the pedal through the entire pedal stroke, yet easy to slip foot out with a natural movement when you need to.

Cons

Can't think of any.

Other Thoughts

Highly recommend as an alternative to going clipless.

As advertised. Better than toe clips and a whole lot easier to get out of.. Especially in this Clearwater FL traffic.

StarStarStarStarStar Power Grips Pedal Straps

by
Ownership: a few months
Tech Knowledge: high

Pros

As a cyclist with 30+ years of experience including several years as a League Cycling Instructor for the League of Bicyclists I've practiced and taught vehicular style cycling. This practice allows a cyclist to move with traffic in either a city or country style environment with safety and efficiency.
Maintaining efficient attachment to the pedals without special footwear whether on the street or off-road is a distinct advantage.

Cons

This style of foot-to-pedal attachment can be adjusted too snugly, preventing quick detachment.

Other Thoughts

Power grips are the most efficient style of cycling pedal attachment for mountain style pedals.

StarStarStarStarStar Love the power grips

by
Ownership: one year

Pros

I can't use clips, which totally paralyze me with fear and I had fallen down so many times on it that the power grips give me the freedom to be able to get out of them without falling and also add more power when riding.

Cons

I was told my feet turn outward while viewed from the back. Not sure whether it's a good thing or bad. The outside part of my feet do get achy after a long ride.

StarStarStarStarStar Power grip straps

by
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: average

Pros

Replaced my toe buckets with these lightweight wonders. Easy to get feet in and out, like clipless, yet with snug fit with no "play" when lifting up.

Cons

Tough to read the small print on the instruction and slightly blurry diagrams had me pulling out my magnifying glass.

StarStarStarStarStar Great alternative to clipless pedals

by
Ownership: two months
Tech Knowledge: somewhat low

Pros

Since I have wide shoes, finding clipless shoes is a challenge. With these Power Grips, I can wear the shoes I usually bike with and get the same benefits. Also, they are considerably less expensive than clipless pedals and shoes.

Cons

It's quite a challenge fastening the folded strap to the pedal with a small bolt and nut, especially when you have large fingers!

Other Thoughts

Using these Power Grips today for the first time added about 1.25 mph to my average speed!

StarStarStarStarStar Power Grip Pedal Straps are the Cat's Meow!

by
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: average

Pros

1) Easy to get in and out of the pedal when a quick exit is necessary
2) A much safer alternative to clipless pedals
3) Foot stays securely on the pedal even on rough terrain

Cons

1) Installation was a little challenging but got it done

Other Thoughts

I purchased the Power Grip Pedal Straps shortly after taking a fairly serious fall on my MTB. I hit some loose gravel and rock and the bike slid out from under me. I was unable to unclip from my "clipless" pedals before taking the fall. This accident would have been avoided with the pedal straps as it takes no time or thought to get your feet instantly out of the pedals when the need arises. I am now a believer and have replaced my clipless pedals on both my MTB and cross tour bike with flat pedals and Power Grip Pedal Straps!

StarStarStarStarStar Awesome product!!

Pros

These are exactly what I've been looking for. Easy to install. Much better feel than regular type clips and straps. Great feel and look.

Cons

Because there are Velcro fasteners it can take a little to adjust from one shoe to another.

StarStarStarStarStar Great Alternative to Clip-less Pedals

by
Ownership: a month
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high

Pros

Easy installation
Simple yet elegant design
With very little practice, easy to get in and out of
Low cost
No special shoes required
Ideal for bike commuting

Cons

None, other than not appealing to hardcore roadies.

Other Thoughts

Before I purchased Power Grips I had been using toe cages and straps. A trusted bike mechanic told me about Power Grips, and I've since converted both my flat handlebar road bikes to this set-up.

StarStarStarStarStar A GREAT PRODUCT

by
Ownership: more than a year
Tech Knowledge: somewhat high

Pros

I can wear whatever shoes I choose with this arrangement.

The strap keeps my foot in place on the pedal effectively, usually without my even being aware of its presence. It takes a bit of attention when inserting the foot, but when it's time to put my foot down, It happens so easily I'm not even aware of it. Its as if the strap doesn't even exist.

Years ago I rode thousands of miles with Power Grips with no problems at all.

I definitely would recommend them to a friend.

Cons

Position of the foot on the pedal is not precisely repeatable as with a regular clipless pedal & shoe arrangement. However, you can easily reposition your foot as needed.

Other Thoughts

Deceptively simple in appearance, but truly effective.

StarStarStarStarStar Nice while it lasted

Other Thoughts

StarStarStarStarStar Power Grips

by
Ownership: a few weeks
Tech Knowledge: average

Pros

They really do work, allow quick exit and entry, and fit a variety of shoe sizes.

Cons

Unfortunately -- and this is not the strap's fault -- they don't work with my cycling sandals and limit flexion from knee replacement.
