Reviews of Sugino 38t 130mm Inner Chainring
Sugino inner 30 teeth chainring
I have more than one bike. I have installed this 30t on my comfort/ street bike. I have a Sugino 3 piece crankarm that I got from Modern Bike. It is rigged with the 30 inner/ 42 middle. After riding all day, It feels good to have the 30t to come home northbound (mostly uphill) riding. It feels good when I start out to use the 30 for a few miles to loossen up. I bounce down grass hills & across baseball & football fields & up steep tarmac hills. The MTB is 100mm front shock hardtail with 2.25 /700c tires. My rig only accesses inner & middle rings. The outer ring is there but cannot be accessed by the front derailleur.
Sugino middle 42 ring
I have more than one bike. This is my comfort/street bike mtb frame. The 42 teeth chainring allows me to push the bike fairly quick when riding southbound/ downhill & in traffic. It is installed on the Sugino triple crankarm I have. #30 teeth inner/42 teeth middle. I only allow my front derailleur to access the inner and middle. I left the outer 44 teeth ring on as a bash guard. The tires are 2.25 inch /700c. So basically I have a 2piece rig. Because riding in traffic for years I have found that when cars or buses are going past me @ 30 to 40 mph staying in one front ring make for a steady ride.
Sugino chainring
Pros
Shipped very quickly, arrived in original Sugino packaging, obviously an OEM component. It replaced my original 1980's Sugino chainring on my classic Nashiki. I didn't know how bad my old ring was until I installed the new one. Made upshifting a pleasure. Don't hesitate to buy this if your ring is worn and needs replacing.
Cons
No cons, it's an original Sugino part that fits my existing Sugino 110mm crank set perfectly.
Other Thoughts
I've ordered a Sugino 38 tooth ring to replace my old 40, looking forward to receiving that shortly.
great chainring
great chainring
Perfectly adequate chainring for triple crank set and seven speed cassette.
Pros
I have used Sugino chainrings for many years with no problems. They are reasonably priced, look good, and last as long as any other aluminum rings.
Cons
None.
Chainring
Replace worn ring on commuter bike.
Change of gearing
Pros
Good quality, nicely machined.
Got great help from Modern Bike in choosing the right type of replacement ring, inner, for my ‘92 Shimano Ultegra. Had a 53/42 but the front derailure allowed for 14 tooth spring so a 39 was welcome vs the 42. Had a special ride with lots of hills.
Cons
A tiny bit thinner than Shimano so a 0.6 mm chain ring spacer was required to make it shift well. With that in place it’s perfect.
Nice, made in Japan product
Pros
Nicely made, works well, made in Japan (maybe that doesn't matter but maybe it does...)
Cons
Slightly utilitarian looking - some other chainrings have cutouts whereas this one just has solid metal. I doubt there's any functional difference though, and the weight difference is probably negligible as well.
Other Thoughts
Was pleased with this product. It's nicely made and packaged, and works great. It has no asymmetrical teeth or ramps and pins, but I have not noticed any difference in shifting so I didn't mark that as a con. I do use bar-end shifters though, so it's possible someone with indexed front shifting might notice a difference.
Perfect
Just what I wanted, use it at least 4 days a week.
Cost Effective
Pros
Does the job at the best price. Took me six years to wear out the old one and I ride daily.
Cons
Sugino cranks have one "hidden bolt" that is an unnecessary hassle, no ramping or pegs.
Excellent Retailer
Pros
No installation and test ride yet!

Pros
Fit my Shimano Ultegra FC-6500. I took a test ride, it works well.
Cons
1) Does not have chain capture pin and rivet pairs like that of Shimano Ultegra 6500 53T chainring.
2) Price

24 t chainring
Pros
fast delevery
Cons
not much material for structural integrity , hope there a 25 t version ... but nobody do that except maybe the french compagnie that I don't souvenir the nom .
24 t and 26 t chainring review
Pros
perfect fit
Cons
24 t version : not much material left for structural integrety
Other Thoughts
hope there a 25 th version ...but nobody offer that .
Good chainring
Pros
I like the simple look.
It looks like it has a polymer coating. That's probably better than anodizing.
Low price.
Cons
It's a bit generic...
Can't tell what is the coating, or the type alloy.
Other Thoughts
Haven't owned it long enough to know it's durablility.
It seems strong enough.
Good value.
Middle chain ring for an 8-speed triple
Have not put it into use since it was purchased as a back-up to my current chain rings. (I fear 8-speed ring availability will disappear before my biking with this system ends.) (-:
The folks at Modern Bike were very helpful in helping me find what I needed.
Sugino chain ring for an 8-speed gear system
Met expectations. This was purchased as a backup for my 8-speed current system before such rings are no longer available. I haven't put it into use but it certainly appears to be just what I was looking for and the tech staff at Modern Bike were very helpful in finding me what I needed.
