Reviews of Tubus Tara Rack Black

Fits perfectly on the 2021 specialized diverge. Have done two multi day trips so far with no issues.

Tubus makes a high quality rack... hand's down. Modern Bike kept me appraised of its status, delivered it in good shape and delivered it on time--as promised.

Cons

Even though I know my way around a bike quite well and am adept at using tools, there was still a bit of fine tuning I needed to do and I'm sure that had more to do with my fenders than the rack.

Had some issues with the wheel not spinning as freely. I think the tension from the rack was an issue at first.

Its a decent rack. If your forks have the required mounts, the duo is a better choice.

Lets me put a porteur rack up on top.

Pros

Have used this for groceries & bringing home beer from the brewery. Holds my Ortlieb front-roller classic panniers securely, and I don't even feel the extra weight on the bike while moving.

Also like the top hole to mount a light or camera.

If you're looking for a front rack, this is definitely worth a try.

Just wish it came in stainless to match my rear rack a little better, but otherwise, it's great!

I personally had some tweaking to do, b/c I have an odd bike set-up and front disk brakes as well as fenders.

This is my second set of Tubus front & rear racks. I’m not letting this pair go.

Very sturdy and simple.

Cons

If you use panniers w hooks at the bottom, the hooks slide up the bottom curve. There is nothing at the bottom to prevent hook from sliding. I wrapped w bar tape on two ends of bottom, and finished w zip ties to stop hooks from sliding off.

Mine came w a mounting hole at front top for light. Perfect spot for a light.

The Tara is NOT designed to handle bungee and hook mounting used by Arkel and many other pannier manufactures. The bungee hooks slide off the bottom strut since there is no stop to prevent the slide. The Tara is designed to use Ortielb lower hooks only. You can buy additional accessories that allow the TARA to carry bungee corded hook mounted panniers.. (Very insecurely)
NOT recommended.

Other Thoughts

Tubus used to make great front racks that were designed for multiple pannier mounting systems but they have been discontinued. A great loss for bike tourists.

These are great for light bikepacking or touring, they weigh next to nothing and look really nice. Easy to mount both my small Axiom panniers, or my Ortlieb panniers to them.

Chromoly, so good strength/weight. Durable, two years on with over 10,000 miles.

No cons, does the lowrider job well.

Wish I had bought one with a rack across the top of the lowrider for an additional $30 just for the additional functionality but that was my mistake. This rack is performing well.

This worked well with some bucket panniers I made with Arkel Camlock hooks. I plan to replace the buckets with something else, but the Arkel hooks and this rack worked perfectly. I removed the hook and bungee so it wouldn't end up in the spokes.
