Pros
Light for their size (~320g, which I confirmed), and lighter in general
Folding bead that is svelte enough to work with narrower rims
Pretty tan wall, attractive tire overall
Nearly true to stated size
Great ride quality
Good grip
Tires "true up" well and easily--no "wobbly hotdog"
Not a mushy, sluggish ride (PSI and rider weight dependent, naturally)
Cons
A bit tight when mounting to certain rims, but that's largely due to new tire + a given rim design (like MA2/MA40s etc). They stretch out a little over time.
Other Thoughts
I bought these after having great experience with the slightly smaller 33mm version. These 38's measured nearly 37mm wide and about 35mm tall (above the rim) on H+Son TB14s at ~70 PSI (I am a tall, 200 lb rider). They are currently on narrower, older, Mavic MA2 rims, and measure a little over 35mm tall and over 36mm wide. There is likely some initial stretching/"breaking in" at work here, but the 33's I have (bought used) measure similarly (aka slightly under nominal size). As always, your tires are one important part of your bike's ride equation. These Somas can and will right any or many wrongs, so I fully recommend they be a part of that ride equation.
Know the kind of riding you do (I am on-road exclusively at present) and frame your expectations. As light as a large 320g tire is, it's still large and thus reacts (out of the saddle) like a large diameter tire--slower than a good 23-28mm tire. This is to be expected, but is still impressive given everything. If you ride in the saddle all the time, then these will simply be a great tire. Will angels be kissing your posterior every second because this of the large diameter, supple tire club (a la Compass, Rene Herse, Grand Bois, etc) and all those tires are said to do that??? Again, your frame (material, brake type, geometry), saddle, fitment to the frame, and wheels (rubbish feeling rims hurt more than one would think) all factor in... But again, and especially at this price, these are a big winner. Heck, with a few of the other Supple Club'ers, the lack of "wobbly hotdog"--the tire, upon full rim seating and inflation, wobbling/kicking/snaking to one side when spinning the wheel--is worth a lot all on it's own.
Enjoy the ride!
