StarStarStarStarStar Some bling for my classic!

by Norman A. of Fullerton, CA
Ownership: a few months

Pros

Very attractive. Solidly built. Fairly easy to install. Everyone will notice it.

Cons

Since it's aluminum and not plastic, it is noisier when small rocks that are being kicked back by the tire hits it.

StarStarStarStarStar Beautiful sturdy fenders

by Nate M. of Portland, OR
Ownership: a month

Pros

Beautiful fenders. I bought them for a red early 2000s Waterford 1900 adventure with an older silver Campagnolo group set on it. Fenders are very sturdy once adjusted and tightened. The stays have a lot of spring to the metal. They are bendable, but quite a lot of force is required to do so. This means that though I've banged the fenders around a bit getting the bike up and down some steep stairs, they've stayed in place.

The fenders are both long. I've got as much coverage on the front wheel without a mudflap as I did on my old planet bike fenders WITH a mud flap. Good clearance on these fenders. I have a 700x28 on the rear and a 700x37 on the front, and it clears both. The front could go a little larger, but not much.

Cons

My bike has a short wheel base, with occasional toe strike issues. The odd rivet bolts that attach the stays to the fenders on the front stick out from the surface of the fender by about a centimeter. They're pretty, but they claim precious toe clearance on the front. I'm getting used to it though, and it's becoming a non-issue.

For the rear fender, the instructions had me attach it to the bike at the chain stay bridge and then at the stays, attached at the rear drop out. I also have a rack on this bike (Axiom Journey). This fender has some wobble, and with only those two connections it was slapping up against the seat stay bridge when I hit bumps. Solution was easy. I drilled another hole and attached it at the seat stay bridge as well with more of the included hardware.

Basically, be wary of reduced toe clearance on bikes with short wheel bases, and prepare yourself to have three points of contact for the rear fender on some bikes.

Other Thoughts

These fenders are famous for being difficult to install. There's truth in the claims. However, they came with a surplus of hardware for many different eventualities, and it was more than sufficient for me. A bike stand, hacksaw, metal file, and socket wrench were all necessary for me to get these installed, as well as typical allen and crescent wrenches. If you have access to all of these things, it shouldn't be a problem. Expect to maybe have to do corrections a couple times.

No regrets though. I love these fenders. Excellent rain protection.

StarStarStarStarStar Hammered fenders

by Tim S. of Lancaster , PA

Pros

Adds a touch of class to my classic Ross signiture series ride.

Cons

A real pain in the rear end to install correctly. I'm a machinist and had to fabricate a part to fit the front fork. The rear required me to cut a section to fit perfect, which I haven't come to terms to do.
